Sylvesters in the Bluegrass: Happy Birthday Luke!

Wow! My little baby turned 5 today. He has turned into a little boy and is becoming very independent. Luke has grown in so many ways that it makes me so proud of him but a little sad that he has lost his "baby" in him. He has a huge imagination, loves to dress up and be in character, loves to play super heroes, knights, pirates, any thing with swords, soccer and play with his daddy and brother in the yard. He started preschool this year and loves it. His speech has developed and many words that he had trouble with have been self corrected. Although he still says some words wrong like totcorn for popcorn. Other new words that he is not sure how to say or can't remember how to say, he will make something up. For example, he was asking if he could stay at school for extended day but he couldn't say or didn't know how to say "extended" so he called it Henry day. His favorite color is still blue. He loves the Wildcats because they are the blue team. He still is a very picky eater but is getting better about trying new foods, most of which he says are good but he doesn't want anymore. He has gotten taller but hasn't put on much weight.

This year he wanted a Knight and Castle party. He only wanted boys because girls would ruin it. He also thought they would give him girl presents. Oh well, easy for me. So we had 10 little friends over. They painted shields, had a sword fight, slayed a dragon pinata and enjoyed cake and ice cream. Nona had gotten Luke a couple rocket blasters which were a huge hit and turned into a war in the back yard. It was fun watching these boys get creative in firing the rockets and hitting the other team. The shields turned out really neat despite my nervousness in getting paint out. Luke didn't want to paint one since he was the king and kings don't have shields. Instead he walked around discussing and complementing everyone on their shield. The party was a huge success and lots of fun. Both boys were wiped out and crashed early.

On Luke's birthday we opened family gifts, went to church and took him out to eat. He picked his favorite restaurant, Mellow Mushroom. He also had another birthday party of a classmates later that afternoon which was a nice way to end his celebration and the weekend.
